The energy appears to be flowing both toward and away from the broker's outstretched hand; perhaps symbolic of a constant transfer between the broker and whatever is beyond him. The lighting surrounding the hand and energy is masterful, showing variance in the shadow's pattern to contrast the energy. This enhances the sensation of movement, as the shadows are a step behind the light. The scorched fingertips point out the risk a mortal takes working with immortal power.

I've seen similar images over the years. Of them, few have taken such time making the background enhance the image. It's a detail that puts this ahead of the others.
